With Mark Hughes having pipped Sven Goran Eriksson the post of Fulham manager, most people appear to believe the Cottagers are doing the right thing. Is this the case?

Having watched both try (and fail) to match the expectations at City, the case for Hughes over Sven is more debatable. They're completely contrasting figures with the elderly urbane european perspective of Sven opposed by the more abrasive Brit manager.

oncerns about Mark Hughes:

Man management - One thing we quickly learnt last year was Hughes didn't have the samba style to win over our Brazilian contingent. A pre-season boot camp (which was noticably less rigorously enforced this year) is his preferred method for bonding. In fairness, he does inspire loyalty from some, notably Ireland and Bellamy, and respect from others. Bellamy in particular has always played his best football under his fellow Welshman.

With no Premier League games last weekend, it's a good time to examine the qualities Mark Hughes brings to City and consider whether it looks like being enough to take City into the Champions League and win some silverware.

Firstly, we can consider the positive contributions the Welshman and his management team have made, then we can look at the areas of concern.

Mark Hughes has stated that the incredible turnover of players in the last two transfer windows isn’t going to be repeated in the future.

These are fascinating statements that appear to confirm how Sheikh Mansour has invested heavily in the short team, with a view to having City compete for the Champions League positions.

Mark Hughes:
