Verdict: Manchester City 3 Wigan Athletic 0

Frustration ultimately gave way to satisfaction as Carlos Tevez once again inspired City to victory with a 12 minute hat-trick in the second-half. Wigan will point to the sending off of Caldwell on 71 minutes as the turning point, but City fans won’t care as we maintained our chase for a Champions League place.

Given – Kept a welcome clean sheet thanks to a couple of excellent saves. The opportunity to demonstrate his skills ought to be a confidence booster. 7

Zabaleta – Was given some testing moments by the strong and pacy Rodallega. A tenth booking of the season sees him miss the next two fixtures. 6

Despite City’s poor record against Wigan, there are reasons to be optimistic about tonight’s fixture. Following wins for both Spurs and Liverpool, victory is essential and Mancini’s new attacking style should be improved by the return of Emmanuel Adebayor.

Another disappointing defeat to Everton put a dent in City’s Champions League ambitions as we failed to break through a typically organised defence in a feisty, frustrating game.

Given – Typified the frustration with a sprint into the opposition half to remonstrate with the referee. Unfortunately Shay had little chance with the goals and was otherwise rarely employed. 6

Richards – Good to see him sharper in the tackle after being rested on Sunday. Did his best to take the game to Everton in the first half and was unlucky to be taken off. 7

In form Everton are the latest test for City as Roberto Mancini looks to lay down a marker in the race for fourth place with a victory to follow on from Sunday’s excellent result over Fulham.

City proved good value for victory over Fulham with goals from Santa Cruz and Tevez vindicating Roberto Manchini’s attacking line-up. Despite missing several chances to increase our lead, City survived a couple of late scares with the score at 2-1 following a questionable penalty against Gareth Barry.

Given – Another quiet game for Shay as Fulham struggled to find a way through. 6

Zabaleta – Managed to play the whole game in just the one position. Did ok defensively, particularly after Duff switched to the opposing flank. 6

Following their heroic achievements against Juventus, it’s to be hoped Fulham are a little partied out for the match on Sunday. Roy Hodgson has previously spoken about the importance of their midweek FA Cup replay against Tottenham, so this could be a good time to visit Craven Cottage.

Verdict: Sunderland 1 Manchester City 1

A combination of great goalkeeping and weak finishing left City needing a moment of beauty from Adam Johnson to draw with Sunderland in a game very much of two halves. Both were hugely frustrating, but for different reasons as we failed to get our game going in the first period, before failing to take our chances in the second.
