For anyone not yet over the defeat at Old Trafford, take a look at Portsmouth to see how much worse things could be. If City suffer a hangover from Wednesday, it could be a low key game. If City look to take out their frustration on the south coast club, then there has rarely been a Premier League team who look more vulnerable to a hammering.

Reports in Italy are claiming that Roberto Mancini has nipped in ahead of Jose Mourinho to sign Kenyan midfielder McDonald Mariga from Parma.
Carling Cup player ratings: Manchester United v Manchester City
Given – Made a great save at the death, but then stayed on his line for the goal. Also gambled wrongly on Carrick aiming at the near post for United’s second. 6
Richards – Defended solidly throughout, and played far better than on our last trip to Old Trafford. Surprised us all with a great strike using his left foot. 8
Carling Cup verdict: Manchester United 3 Manchester City 1
To lose 4-3 at Old Trafford to a stoppage time winner once this season was bad enough. To lose 4-3 (on aggregate) to a stoppage time winner for a second time is… Maybe I’m getting used to it, but it didn’t feel quite so bad second time around.
Carling Cup preview: Manchester United v Manchester City

FA Cup player ratings: Scunthorpe United v Manchester City
Taylor – A lot better than his last first team appearance in Abu Dhabi. This time the early rush off the line brought about an important save rather than a penalty. A great tip over in the second half was the pick of the rest. 7
Onuoha – Typical peformance of a centre-half doing a job at right-back. Solid defensively, little to offer going forward – with the honourable exception of a very coolly taken goal at an important time. 7
FA Cup verdict: Scunthorpe United 2 Manchester City 4
Roberto Mancini rang the changes but kept the balance right to see City avoid a potential upset thanks to four sumptuous goals. Sylvinho outshone his compratiot with a stunning strike, though Robinho managed to put all the speculation aside and displayed his skills in a good performance. Just don’t expect the press pack to acknowledge it.
FA Cup preview: Scunthorpe United v Manchester City
City take on Scunthorpe in a cup competition for the second time this season and will be hoping for a repeat of the 5-1 victory at Eastlands. It promises to be a closer affair at Glanford Park with Roberto Mancini likely to rest several players prior to Wednesday’s trip to Old Trafford.
Carling Cup verdict: Manchester City 2 Manchester United 1
Carlos Tevez stole the headlines with two goals as City came from behind to beat a full-strength United in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final. Nothing can be taken for granted in the second leg as United showed their danger with a late onslaught, but at least City fans could go home happy with a win on the night.
